Trying to Be God: Nancy Wilson Quotes Spurgeon on Anxiety

The precept to avoid anxious care is earnestly inculcated by our Saviour, again and again; it is reiterated by the apostles; and it is one which cannot be neglected without involving transgression: for the very essence of anxious care is the imagining that we are wiser than God, and the thrusting ourselves into His place to do for Him that which He has undertaken to do for us. We attempt to think of that which we fancy He will forget; we labour to take upon ourselves our weary burden, as if He were unable or unwilling to take it for us.
Now this is disobedience to His plain precept, this unbelief in His Word, this presumption in intruding upon His province, is all sinful…Anxiety makes us doubt God’s lovingkindess, and thus our love to Him grows cold; we feel mistrust, and thus grieve the Spirit of God, so that our prayers become hindered, our consistent example marred, and our life one of selfseeking.
Thus want of confidence in God leads us to wander far from Him; but if through simple faith in His promise, we cast each burden as it comes upon Him, and are “careful for nothing” because He undertakes to care for us, it will keep us close to Him, and strengthen us against much temptation. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee.”

Signs of the Times

Cael is doing great as our resident Potty Trainer.  Above is our "homemade" signal for the need to potty, which has actually been in use probably since about the time he turned one in August.  Below is a reflection of the way Mommy smiles on days like today that involve zero diaper laundry.  All three littles stayed dry all night, and Cael did not have any accidents in the past 24 hours. Hip, Hip!!!

Daddy's Birthday

Since Titus's birthday this year happened to fall on a day he needed to make a trip to Little Rock for supplies, the kids and I decided we would grace his journey with our presence and add a few other stops for the fun of it.  Our day of urban running about ended up at the mall, where we gathered presents for Daddy amongst the other things on our list.  The grand finale for our day was the mall bungee jump.  Everyone but Cael tried the experience.  Mommy was officially declared the worst jumper due to a complete lack of impressive height in the bounce, and the birthday boy's front flips easily secured him top honors of the McLeran Jumpers.  It was a fun day, and not too bad a birthday party for a thirty-four year old!

Faithful and Grateful: One Thousand Gifts, Chapter 8

If authentic, saving belief is the act of trusting, then to choose stress is an act of disbelief . . . Anything less than gratitude is practical atheism. . . . Fear is the opposite of faith.--Ann Voskamp

The foremost quality of a trusting disciple is gratefulness.--Brennan Manning

Tooth Tales

Jocelyn joins the ranks of the tooth-losers--with help from Big Brother Ian, of course.

 Then the tables turned . . .

Ian asked Daddy to help him with a bothersome tooth he couldn't get out.

Daddy grabbed a set of pliers and went to work . . . but couldn't get it either!
Then, just when we were all thinking Ian would have to go to bed and sleep on it,
Ian gave it another try himself:

Where there's a will, there's a way!
Good job, Ian!!!

The Mysterious Boy--by Ian, age 10

Once upon a time there was a boy who could pick up cars.  One day he was gone, and his parents looked and looked for him but could not find him.  He had gotten on a train heading for the rain forest--where he dug a hole and put a trap door of mud, leaves and moss.  He lived there for three years, but one day he thought about his mother and father.  Then he said bye to his home and got on a train and went home.
