Found a couple good books of children's poetry on the last library run. I didn't know a thing about the distinctives of haiku before bringing home the volume pictured above. I have since learned that the three lines with 5-7-5 syllable patterns are a fun and effective way to communicate--especially when set on a background of excellent water color.I thought I knew all I cared to know about the highly sophisticated art of acrostics, but Steven Schnur's alphabet acrostic entitled Summer, with its bold illustrations by Leslie Evans, persuaded me of the merits of that art form. Big on pictures and short on words, both books make exceptionally good reading practice for Lewis.

If you do, don't think that Lewis is able to read them by himself. It's a team effort!
