"Rules and principles make good fences for a family, but not good glue. Joy is the best family glue on the market. A carnal family with joy will produce better kids than a 'spiritual' family with tight-lipped, rigid, or stern-browed legalism."
"It doesn't have to be either/or. The absolute best approach is joyful, disciplined spirituality founded on the solid principles of the Word of God and separation from the world."

That sums up Michael Pearl in a nutshell, doesn't it? For many years, I've benefitted from his and Debi's insight on child training. And my main conclusion is that it's about God training ME, and then the joy that results naturally breathes itself into my child's soul. One quote from the Pearls that I always remember is "Trying to train children in an atmosphere of criticism is like trying to make ice in an oven...it just doesn't work!"
Three cheers for family superglue! :)
